Do we need a chat room or online learning system?

I was wondering if it would be a useful facility to have a chat room kind of place where we could have online sessions on specific subjects. I got this idea from a friend who was interested in having a place where we can come together as a group to learn/explore theories and methods related with experiential learning in the outdoors (not an ISABSian)
Perhaps meetings, special lectures or similar stuff online, where we simply decide a time and subject before hand and everyone turns up.
Right now, this site is too new and little used, but it could be a useful training feature - perhaps even with some potential in terms of mentoring, or other guidance.
I’d like suggestions in terms of what facilities you’d like to see (or if you think its unnecessary).
In the meanwhile, I am playing around with a very well respected e-learning software called “moodle”, which I have installed here:

you are all welcome to drop in and take a look. If it seems to be working, and if we have people interested in using it, it can be incorporated into our site.
Documentation on usage for anyone interested:
