I have been toying with the idea of forming a PDP study group. The idea came to me when, I talked with PDP members and almost everyone said they cannot find time to pursue things that will aid their inter-phase work. The reason being tied down with professional priorities and then personal commitments. Many people don’t have a slot for the inter-phase work. My thought is that if we create a study group that meets once a week or once in 10 days many of us will put it as a part of our schedules and will make it happen atleast 50% of the times. Yes, its all about personal need to do PDP and each one of us is responsible for our own commitment to the inter-phase work etc. But since all of us are on the same journey, its my gut feel that we will benefit. And since I am anyway doing it for myself, I would love to include others. The group can make a study table and announce common topic for discussion for the week. We meet for 2 and half hours, in which 45 mins will be dedicated to reading aloud or silently , as per each person’s wish. This is followed by a discussion for 45 minutes. The balance time can be dedicated to specific tasks like sharing of book reviews or a lecture on specific topic from the professional members of the community.
The venue can be arranged like the monthly meetings - voluntary. and we can check with Vignesh as he has given an open invite to use his space. Though I don’t want to take advantage of it always…
Some non-PDP ISABS members have expressed their wish to join the study group as well. However, I am not sure of opening it to one and all. My reservation is that it may dilute the purpose of the group.
What is your view? Would a group like this be meaningful to you?

Hi,
I appreciate the thought for the PDP study group. With my notoriously home bound preferences and mind rattling schedule, I don’t know if I can commit to attendance in the near future, but it will not last for long. Something’s bound to get loose, or I’m bound to get fed up of the pace and kick a few things out.
I’m fine with the idea and also fine with non-PDP members of the group, the only thing being that what will then distinguish it from the monthly meetings, which we are free to use how we like in any case. From the little I have seen of our PDP group, we get so caught up in interaction when we meet, that at the moment it is difficult to imagine that we would respect a structure unless it was a workshop by some hotshot. The temptation to yack about is really strong
I can’t visualize the bunch of us sitting quietly in the same room and reading.
Hey! But then, another possibility might be for one of us to take charge of each meeting to deliver a kind of workshop on whatever it is that interests us and is of relevance to the learning interests of the group. It will add variety of subjects and intense focus on each, provide different perspectives as well as develop our “workshop delivery” skills for use in our professional careers with an audience we trust and with useful feedback rather than the aam janata of the non-ISABS world. What do you think?
Of course you can put this up on the site. In fact, I think it would be a good idea to bring this up on the discussion forums (including pasting our conversation until now on this subject) so that we can have other opinions on this. I wish we had thought of this sooner. I could have spoken about it in the newsletter leading to people surely hearing about it and visiting the discussion thread
I guess you still could make a post about it and put in a link to the discussion thread.

The virtual study area for the PDP group has been created and can be accessed at: http://isabsmumbai.org/pdp
Admission by invitation, so use the contact form to ask for a login and password if you are doing the PDP or are a professional member.
This area is strictly for study and not open to the regular community like the main site.
